PUC Fines Shenango Valley Area Ambulance Service $3,000

Published on 3/2/2006

HARRISBURG -- The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today fined Shenango Valley Area Ambulance Service Inc. $3,000 for providing service and making itself available to provide service without Commission approval. The company operates out of Farrell, Mercer County, and primarily transports patients to and from Sharon Regional Health System facilities, doctors' offices, and residences.

The PUC's Bureau of Transportation and Safety filed the complaint against the company on Dec. 1, 2005, alleging that Shenango Valley Area Ambulance Service provided service and made itself available to provide service without holding a certificate of public convenience or contract carrier permit.  No response has been received from the company, which the Commission directed today to cease and desist from further violations.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission ensures safe, reliable and reasonably priced electric, natural gas, water, telephone and transportation service for Pennsylvania consumers, by regulating public utilities and by serving as stewards of competition.
