HARRISBURG -- The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today ordered flashing lights and gates to be installed at the Luzerne Street railroad crossing in the City of Scranton, Lackawanna County.

The work is to be completed by Reading Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad (RBMNRR) within 90 days from the entry of the PUC’s order.  PennDOT and the City of Scranton will each reimburse RBMNRR 10 percent of cost, not to exceed $20,000, of the flashing lights and associated labor and materials necessary for the installation.  The railroad will have sole responsibility to maintain the lights and gates following installation in accordance with federal and state regulations.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission ensures safe, reliable and reasonably priced electric, natural gas, water, telephone and transportation service for Pennsylvania consumers, by regulating public utilities and by serving as stewards of competition.
