PUC Fines Westmoreland County Limousine Service $2,000 for Violations

HARRISBURG - The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today fined Park Avenue Limousine of New Kensington, Westmoreland County, $2,000 for providing service and making itself available to provide service without Commission approval. 

The PUC’s Bureau of Transportation and Safety filed the complaint against the company on Feb. 22, 2006 and recommended a fine of $2,000 for providing service and making itself available to provide service on two occasions without holding a certificate of public convenience from the PUC.  The company had 20 days to respond to the complaint or the fine would be imposed.  No response was received from the company, which the Commission also directed today to cease and desist from further violations.

By law, companies are required to hold a certificate of public convenience from the PUC in order to transport property, passengers or household goods within the state.  Holding a certificate of public convenience ensures that the company has met all of the PUC’s safety and insurance standards.
