PUC Approves Settlement with Lancaster County Amish Taxi

HARRISBURG—The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved a settlement agreement with a Lancaster County man who failed to file proper evidence of insurance with the Commission.

As part of the settlement, Carl Diller will pay a $1,000 fine.  Diller provides transportation services to the members of the Amish community in Lancaster County. 

On May 26, 2005 the PUC filed a complaint against Diller, alleging he had been operating his vehicle in paratransit service for 11 days during a period in which his certificate of public convenience was suspended for failing to provide proof of insurance with the Commission. 

By law, companies are required to hold a certificate of public convenience from the PUC in order to transport property, passengers or household goods within the state.  Holding a certificate of public convenience ensures that the company has met all of the PUC’s safety and insurance standards.
