PUC Approves Rate Increase Lower than Sought by City of Lancaster – Water Fund

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved a settlement of a rate increase request by the City of Lancaster – Water Fund that increases consumer rates, but not to the level the company originally requested.

The Commission voted unanimously to approve the settlement, which includes a rate increase of $950,000 (13 percent), which is less than the $999,999 (13.7 percent) requested by the city. As part of the settlement, the city cannot apply for another rate increase for at least two years. The increase affects 27,740 customers living outside the city’s limits.

Under the settlement, the quarterly bill for an average customer using 15,000 gallons of water would increase by about $7.50 from $58.20 to $65.70. The company’s original proposal raised the average quarterly bill by about $8 to $66.15.
