PUC Fines Monroe County Trucking Company $3,000 for Violations

Published on 7/20/2006

HARRISBURG—The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today fined M&G Trucking of Stroudsburg, Monroe County, $3,000 for providing service and making itself available to provide service without Commission approval on three occasions.

The PUC’s Bureau of Transportation and Safety filed the complaint against the company on March 15, 2006, alleging that M&G Trucking provided service on March 11, June 29, and July 11, 2005 for compensation, without holding proper PUC approvals.  The company had 20 days to respond to the complaint or the fine would be imposed.  The PUC did not receive a response during that time.

M&G Trucking received a certificate of public convenience on Aug. 4, 2000.  The certificate was cancelled on June 15, 2001.

By law, companies are required to hold a certificate of public convenience from the PUC in order to transport property, passengers or household goods within the state.  Holding a certificate of public convenience ensures that the company has met all of the PUC’s safety and insurance standards.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission ensures safe, reliable and reasonably priced electric, natural gas, water, telephone and transportation service for Pennsylvania consumers, by regulating public utilities and by serving as stewards of competition.
