HARRISBURG—The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved an agreement for a lower rate than requested by Corner Water Supply.

Under the settlement, the company will raise rates by about $19,100 (6.4 percent). The bill for an average residential customer will increase from $30.90 a month to $32.86 a month, according to the settlement. The company’s original proposal called for a rate increase of about $41,800 (13.9 percent), which would increase a customer’s monthly bill to $35.21.

The company cannot file for another general rate increase for at least one year, according to the settlement, which was reached between the company and the Commission’s Office of Trial Staff.

The Corner Water Supply serves about 389 customers in Paint Township, Clarion County.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities to ensure safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protect the public interest; educate consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; further economic development; and foster new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
