Published on 3/1/2007

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today fined A Plus Family Movers Inc. of Burlington, N.J., $1,600 for various violations of the Public Utility Code and Commission regulations.

On Oct. 27, 2006, the Commission’s Bureau of Transportation and Safety filed a complaint alleging that the company charged an improper rate other than specified in its tariff; failed to furnish the shipper with an “Information for Shippers” statement prior to the preparation of an order for service; failed to relinquish possession of the complete shipment at the destination upon payment of the estimate plus 10 percent or $25, whichever is greater; and failed to file a report of underestimates with the Commission.

The company had 30 days to respond to the complaint or the recommended fine of $1,600 would be imposed.  The PUC did not receive a response during that time. The company also is ordered to cease and desist from all further violations.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities to ensure safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protect the public interest; educate consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; further economic development; and foster new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
