HARRISBURG--The state's Public Utility Commission (PUC), which is funded through assessments of the state's more than 6,000 public utilities, has a budget that is separate from the state's general fund budget. The PUC budget (Act 5A of 2007) was approved by the General Assembly and signed by the Governor on June 30. With that, the PUC remains fully operational to serve Pennsylvanians. Consumers can continue to reach out to the PUC for any problems, questions, concerns or complaints about their utility service. Consumers can call 800-782-1110. Parties with proceedings pending before the Commission should be aware that all scheduled hearings and filing deadlines remain in effect.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities to ensure safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protect the public interest; educate consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; further economic development; and foster new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
