HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved a rate increase request by Total Environmental Solutions Inc., Luzerne County.
The Commission voted unanimously to allow the company to raise rates by about $56,580 (13 percent) annually. The increase allows the company to recover the increased charges for treatment services which is being provided by the Butler Township Wastewater Division. The township notified the company that the treatment services would be increasing from $30 to $35 a month effective Jan. 1, 2008.
The new rates will increase the annual bill for an average residential customer by about $60 from $460 to $520. The company serves about 950 customers in Butler, Foster and Dennison townships.
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities to ensure safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protect the public interest; educate consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; further economic development; and foster new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
