PUC Ratifies Appointment to Consumer Advisory Council

HARRISBURG -- The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today ratified Gov. Edward Rendell’s reappointment of Renardo (Rick) Hicks to the PUC’s Consumer Advisory Council (CAC), which provides input to Commissioners on consumer-related issues.

The Governor reappointed Hicks, a shareholder with the law and consulting firm of Stevens & Lee in Harrisburg. Hicks recently was elected CAC Chairman.

Earlier this year, the Commission reappointed the following members to two-year terms from July 2007 through June 2009:  Joseph H. Capozzolo; Robert A. Christianson; Cynthia J. Datig; John Detman; Harry S. Geller; Thomas A. Leach; Joseph Minott; Dr. Daniel M. Paul; Linda Roth; and Lee Tolbert.  The Commission also recently ratified the appointments of Howard Shakespeare, who was reappointed by Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll; Richard Melvin Adams Jr., who was appointed by House Consumer Affairs Committee Chairman Joseph Preston Jr. (D-Allegheny); and Robert N. Dampman, who was appointed by Senate Consumer Protection & Professional Licensure Committee Chairman Robert M. Tomlinson (R-Bucks).

The Consumer Advisory Council advises the PUC Commissioners on matters related to the protection of consumer interests under the jurisdiction of the PUC.  Council meetings are open to the public.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities to ensure safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protect the public interest; educate consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; further economic development; and foster new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
