HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved a base rate increase by Andreassi Gas Co.

The Commission voted 4-0 to approve the company’s proposal to increase base rates by about $50,002 (11.9 percent). The bill for an average residential customer using about 86 mcf of natural gas will increase about $120 a year from about $980 to $1,100. The new rates have an effective date of Nov. 24, 2007. This is the first rate increase for the company since 1994.

According to the company, the rate increase was needed to keep up with historical inflation rates; enable the company to fund repairs as well as maintain current production of gas; and provide funds to continue to implement pipeline gas safety requirement.

Andreassi serves about 374 customers in Karns City Borough and Fairview and Donegal township, Butler County and Sugar Creek and Bradys Bend townships, Armstrong County.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities to ensure safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protect the public interest; educate consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; further economic development; and foster new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
