PUC Fines Beaver County Taxi Company for Violations

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved a settlement that included a $1,050 fine for J.B. Taxi of Midland, Beaver County for various violations of the Public Utility Code and Commission regulations and Orders.

The PUC’s Bureau of Transportation and Safety filed the complaint against the J.B. Taxi alleging that during a January 2007 inspection various violations of the Public Utility Code and Commission regulations and Orders were found. According to the complaint, the violations included:

• A failure to post the tariff, the fuel recovery surcharge and consumer complaint decal in window;
• An inoperative front and rear hazard flasher system and left turn signal lamp;
• A lack of a carrier number marked on front of unit; and
• Incomplete log sheets.

Under the settlement, the company agreed that violations occurred and, in the future, will comply with the Public Utility Code as well as the Commission’s regulations and Orders regarding the necessity of its vehicle being in optimum condition and the proper posting of required notices. The company agrees to cease from any further violations.
