HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved Pennsylvania-American Water Co.’s application to begin serving an additional portion of Connoquenessing Township, Butler County.

“This line extension represents public and private coming together for the betterment of a community,” said Commissioner Tyrone J. Christy. “The company and the township worked collectively to make certain that the ongoing water problems being experienced by these homeowners were resolved in a manner that was beneficial to all. I thank everyone for their spirit of cooperation.”

The Commission voted 4-0 to approve the service extension to about 25 residential customers on Eagle Mill Road. Some of the homeowners were experiencing reduced water and contamination problems with their private wells. Five public fire hydrants also will be installed. The homeowners and the township agreed to the service by PA-American.

The average residential customer using 4,600 gallons of water a month will pay a monthly bill of about $43.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities to ensure safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protect the public interest; educate consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; further economic development; and foster new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
