HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) this week approved a rate increase for Yellow Cab Company of Pittsburgh.  The Commission voted 4-0 to increase the company’s total revenues by $1,128,651.

The new rates will affect the flag drop, increment and waiting charges.  The flag drop will increase by 12.5 percent from $2 for the first one-seventh mile, to $2.25.  The increment charges will increase by 8.7 percent from $.23 to $.25 per each additional one-seventh mile.  In addition, the waiting charge will increase by 8.7 percent from $.23 to $.25 per minute.  The carrier has eliminated its flat rates and added a rate of 50 cents per each additional one-seventh mile when trips exceed 20 miles in duration.

Yellow Cab Company of Pittsburgh says the increase in revenues is to cover increases in operational costs, wages and benefits.  The company provides service between points in Allegheny, Washington and Westmoreland counties.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities to ensure safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protect the public interest; educate consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; further economic development; and foster new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
