HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved an annual increase in rates of $118,920 (28.6 percent) for Total Environmental Solutions Inc. (TESI) – Beech Mountain Lakes Sewer Division.

The Commission voted 5-0 to allow the company to increase its annual revenues by $118,920.  The increase will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2009.

The company provides wastewater service to 920 residential and 71 commercial customers in portions of Butler, Foster and Dennison townships, Luzerne County.  The average annual bill for residential customers will increase from $520.44 to $640.44 (23 percent).  The company says the increase will allow it to recover the increased charge for treatment service.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities to ensure safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protect the public interest; educate consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; further economic development; and foster new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
