HARRISBURG – As Pennsylvanians hit the highway for spring and summer travels, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC), as part of the Governor’s Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee, will participate in Transportation Awareness Day on Saturday, April 25.

The free event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) parking lot, gates 3 and 4, off of Industrial Road, Harrisburg.  It is open to the public.

Representatives from the PUC Bureau of Transportation and Safety will be available with information on such topics as how to comply with transportation safety regulations and how carriers should complete applications to obtain PUC operating authority.  Staff will also be available to explain the Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) process and will be able to accept carriers’ registration on the spot.

The event also will feature demonstrations of a bus safety inspection by PUC enforcement officers and a roadside inspection for commercial vehicles by the Pennsylvania State Police, as well as other demonstrations.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities to ensure safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protect the public interest; educate consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; further economic development; and foster new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
