HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved a settlement agreement, which fines Yellow Cab Co. of Pittsburgh (Yellow Cab) $4,000 for violations of the Public Utility Code and Commission regulations.

The Commission voted 5-0 to fine the company for violations that included failure to require that drivers possess valid drivers’ licenses while operating vehicles and failure to maintain safe, adequate, efficient and reasonable service and facilities for the safety and accommodation of the public.  Commissioner Wayne E. Gardner issued a statement.

Under the terms of the settlement, Yellow Cab, while not admitting to the violations, agreed to comply with the Public Utility Code and the Commission’s regulations in the future as well as to implement a remediation plan including quarterly reviews by the Commission to alleviate potential future non-compliance.

The company provides service between points in Allegheny, Washington and Westmoreland counties.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities to ensure safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protect the public interest; educate consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; further economic development; and foster new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
