PUC to Investigate Rate Request by Mercer County Water Co.

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to investigate a proposed rate increase for water service of Reynolds Water Co.
The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate the proposed $207,503 (50.5 percent) increase for water revenues. It is suspended for up to seven months until April 28, 2010, and will be assigned to the Office of Administrative Law Judge for public hearings and a recommended decision or settlement.
Under the company’s proposal, the bill for customers using 50,400 gallons annually would increase from $356.30 to $537.14 (50.8 percent). The company said the primary reason for the rate increase is to see a reasonable rate of return on the company’s fixed capital investment and to recover increased operating expenses.
More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website
Reynolds Water Co. provides water service to 740 residential, commercial and industrial customers in portions of Pymatuning, Delaware and Hempfield townships, Mercer County.
