HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to approve a rate increase for Templeton Water Co.

The Commission voted 5-0 to allow the company to raise its rates by about $14,235 (50 percent).  The new rates will increase the quarterly charge for unmetered customers from $39.04 to $58.57.  The company had proposed an increase in rates of $16,228 (62.7 percent).

More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.

The increase in rates is needed for the company to recover costs associated with several main line moves and labor and machine expenses. The company provides water service to approximately 170 customers in the village of Templeton, Pine Township, Armstrong County.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities to ensure safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protect the public interest; educate consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; further economic development; and foster new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
