PUC Approves Lower Rate Increase than Requested by Wastewater Co. in Chester County

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to approve a lower rate increase than requested for Utilities Inc. of Pennsylvania, Chester County.

The Commission voted 5-0 to approve the joint settlement, which allows the company to increase its annual rates $242,304 (42.6 percent) for wastewater services.  The company had originally requested an increase of $378,737 (66.6 percent).   As part of the settlement, the average quarterly residential wastewater bill will increase by about $47 from $110.63 per quarter to $157.77 per quarter.

The company provides wastewater service to about 1,200 residents in portions of Chester County.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities to ensure safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protect the public interest; educate consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; further economic development; and foster new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
