PUC Rejects Rate Increase Request by Pike County Wastewater Co.

Published on 4/22/2010

HARRISBURG - The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to disapprove an increase request by Clean Treatment Sewage Company (CTSC).

The Commission voted 4-0 to reject a proposed increase in annual rates requested by CTSC. On June 29, 2009, CTSC filed a proposed increase in annual wastewater rates of $221,317 (72.7 percent). Twenty-one customers filed formal complaints opposing the company’s proposed rate increase and public input hearings were held in November 2009. The Commission found that the service provided to its customers is inadequate and unreasonable in that it fails to meet the quality and quantity of service that would justify a rate increase.  CTSC’s customers currently are paying $68 a month for wastewater service.

Clean Treatment Sewage Co. provides wastewater service to approximately 382 customers within the Marcel Lake Estates Community located at Dingmans Ferry, Delaware Township, Pike County.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities to ensure safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protect the public interest; educate consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; further economic development; and foster new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
