HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to investigate a proposed water increase for the City of Lock Haven – Water Department, Clinton County.

The Commission voted 4-0 to investigate the proposed $491,423 (41.6 percent) annual increase for the city’s water revenues.  The increase is suspended for up to seven months and will be assigned to the Office of Administrative Law Judge for public hearings and a recommended decision or settlement.

Under the company’s proposals, the average annual residential bill for water customers would increase $129.38 (43.1 percent) from an annual bill of $300.40  to $429.78  for customers who use 51,000 gallons annually.

City of Lock Haven furnishes water service to approximately 2,160 non-jurisdictional customers in the City of Lock Haven, and approximately 1,060 jurisdictional customers in portions of Allison, Castanea and Wayne Townships, Clinton County.

More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities to ensure safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protect the public interest; educate consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; further economic development; and foster new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
