HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to approve a settlement approving a lower rate increase than requested by Aqua Pennsylvania Inc.

The Commission voted 4-0 to approve the joint settlement, which was reached among the Commission’s Office of Trial Staff, the Office of Consumer Advocate, Aqua Large Users Group, Masthope Property Owners Council, the Office of Small Business Advocate and the company.  The settlement permits the company to raise its rates by $23.6 million.

The bill for an average Main Division residential customer on a 5/8” meter will increase from $48.28 per month to $50.81 per month, or $2.52 (5.2 percent).  The company originally requested an increase of $5.51 (11.4 percent).

More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.
