PUC to Investigate Wellsboro Electric Increase Request

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to investigate Wellsboro Electric Co.’s request to increase its rates by $870,100 (23.7 percent).

The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate the request.  Under the company’s proposal, the average total bill for a residential customer who uses 700 kWh per month would increase by $4.67 per month (5.3 percent) from $88.07 to $92.74 a month. 

The request is suspended for up to seven months and will be assigned to the Office of Administrative Law Judge for public hearings and a recommended decision or settlement. A final decision must be made by March 9, 2011. Wellsboro provides electric service to about 6,129 customers in the Borough of Wellsboro, Tioga County.
