PUC to Investigate Mercer County Wastewater Co. Rate Increase Request

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to investigate Reynolds Disposal Co.’s request to increase its rates by about $77,170 (20.5 percent).
The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate the request. The request is suspended for up to seven months and will be assigned to the Office of Administrative Law Judge for public hearings and a recommended decision or settlement. A final decision must be made by March 29, 2011. More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.
Under the company’s proposal, the annual bill for an average residential customer using 60,000 gallons per year will increase from $408.68 to $495.64 (21.3 percent).
Reynolds Disposal Co. provides wastewater service to about 680 customers in portions of Mercer County.
