PUC Schedules Public Input Hearings on Proposed Increase by Total Environmental Solutions Inc. – Treasure Lake Water and Sewer Divisions

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) has scheduled two hearings to receive public comment on the proposed rate increases by Total Environmental Solutions Inc. - Treasure Lake Water and Sewer Division.

Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) Katrina L. Dunderdale will conduct the hearings at:

1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Nov. 9, 2010

 On Aug. 18, 2010, the Commission voted 5-0 to investigate the requests, which total $268,140 (25.6 percent) for TESI – Treasure Lake Sewer Division and $376,120 (62.15 percent) for TESI – Treasure Lake Water Division. A final decision in both cases must be made by March 29, 2011. More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.     

Under the TESI Treasure Lake Sewer Division proposal, the annual bill for an average residential customer using 60,000 gallons per year will increase from $514.08 to $694.44 (35.1 percent).  The company provides wastewater services to about 5,600 customers in portions of Clearfield County. 

Under the TESI Treasure Lake Water Division proposal, the annual bill for an average residential customer using 60,000 gallons per year will increase from $237 to $468 (97.5 percent).  The company provides water services to about 5,560 customers in portions of Clearfield County. 

Members of the public are welcome to attend the hearings and provide comments.  Customer testimony will become part of the record on which the PUC will issue its final decision. The PUC and state Office of Consumer Advocate offer tips on how to participate.  They include:

• Prepare what you are going to say beforehand.  Even though it is not required, you may want to write out your statement, which can be read.
• Bring copies.  If you have a written statement you would like to give to the judge as evidence, please bring two copies for the court reporter and several copies for the other participants.

• Plan to be questioned.  Parties in the case may want to ask you a question to clarify something you said.
