Media Advisory: PUC to Join Pittsburgh Natural Gas Utilities to Rally for the Kick Off of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program
Published on 11/9/2010
HARRISBURG – With nighttime temperatures reminding us that it may be time to turn on the heat, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) and Pittsburgh natural gas utilities are joining forces to kick off the start of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) grant application period.
PUC Vice Chairman Tyrone J. Christy will be attending the kickoff event, Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 10 a.m., at the West End Overlook, Pittsburgh. This year, the Pittsburgh natural gas companies will continue their LIHEAP efforts and have unified under a new brand name – called “Partners for Warmth” – and are launching a new campaign called “Faces of LIHEAP.” The event will feature remarks from utility representatives, government officials and National Football League Hall of Famer Franco Harris, who is honorary chair for Partners for Warmth.
LIHEAP helps low-income individuals pay their home heating bills through energy assistance grants. The program opened Nov. 1, 2010 and is scheduled to close March 31, 2011. However, the length of the program may change depending on availability of funds and other factors. More information on LIHEAP can be found here. Changes to the LIHEAP program have been recently made meaning consumers who were not eligible in the past may be this year and are encouraged to check their eligibility again.
