PUC Fines Transportation Company Offering Service in Erie, Crawford counties for Violations
Published on 1/27/2011
HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today fined Direct Inc. trading as Two Guys and a Truck $2,000 for violations of the Public Utility Code and Commission regulations.
The Commission voted 5-0 to fine the company for transporting household goods for compensation between points in Pennsylvania, while not holding a certificate of public convenience.
On Sept. 28, 2010, the PUC Bureau of Transportation and Safety (BTS) instituted a complaint against the company, alleging that they transported household goods in use for compensation, while not holding a certificate of public convenience.
By law, companies are required to hold a certificate of public convenience from the PUC in order to transport property, passengers or household goods within the state. Holding a certificate of public convenience ensures that the company has met all of the PUC’s safety and insurance standards.
Two Guys and a Truck provided carrier services of household goods between points in Erie and Crawford counties.
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities to ensure safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protect the public interest; educate consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; further economic development; and foster new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
