PUC Fines Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Service $20,600 for Violations

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today fined Alpha Moving and Storage Inc. trading as Pioneer Moving Systems Co. $20,600 for violations of the Public Utility Code and Commission regulations.

The Commission voted 5-0 to fine the company for violations including failing to cooperate with a Commission investigation; failing to furnish information; failure to file a tariff showing just and reasonable rates; failure to provide reasonable service and failure to provide updated contact information with the Commission.

The complaint stemmed from the failure of Alpha Moving and Storage, Inc. to deliver household goods which had been placed in storage.  An investigation by the PUC Bureau of Transportation and Safety revealed that the company had been evicted from its facilities and failed to provide the Commission with a new address.  Repeated efforts by the Commission to locate their new location were not successful.

Alpha Moving and Storage, Inc. was certificated to transport household goods in use between points in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties.  The certificate of public convenience was revoked by the Commission on Sept. 2, 2010 for failure to pay its annual assessment.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities to ensure safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protect the public interest; educate consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; further economic development; and foster new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
