PUC to Investigate Rate Increase Request by Company Serving Portions of Carbon, Monroe Counties

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to investigate rate increase requests for Tri-Valley Water Supply, Inc. for its Stone Ridge, Cypress Park and ElDo Lake divisions, serving portions of Carbon and Monroe counties.

The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate the requests.  The requests are suspended for up to seven months and will be assigned to the Office of Administrative Law Judge for public hearings and a recommended decision or settlement.  A final decision must be made by Sept. 1, 2011.  More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.     

Tri-Valley has requested an increase in annual rates of $54,430 (44.3 percent). Under the proposal, the average bill for a residential customer in the Stone Ridge and Cypress Park divisions using 48,000 gallons a year would increase from $602.88 to $852 (41.3 percent). The average bill for a residential customer in the ElDo Lake Division using 48,000 gallons a year would increase from $444 to $660 (48.6 percent).

      Tri-Valley provides service to about 278 customers in portions of Lower Towamensing and Mahoning townships, Carbon County, and portions of Polk Township, Monroe County.
