HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission today approved a lower rate than requested for Deer Haven Sewer Co., Pike County.

The Commission voted 5-0 to approve the lower rates, which allows the company to recover an amount equal to its total allowable annual expenses of $25,715.

The wastewater company originally requested an overall rate increase of $40,314 (373.3 percent).  The annual bill for an average residential customer will increase from $240 to $559.20, an increase of $319.20 (133 percent).  Under the company’s original proposal, the annual bill for an average residential customer would have increased from $240 to $1,140 (375 percent).

The companies serve about 45 customers in portions of Palmyra Township, Pike County.

More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities to ensure safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protect the public interest; educate consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; further economic development; and foster new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
