PUC Approves Settlement for Lower Rate Increase than Requested by CMV Sewage Co.

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved a lower rate increase than requested by CMV Sewage Co., York County as part of an overall settlement of several issues before the PUC.
The Commission voted 5-0 to approve the joint settlement, which was reached among the company, North Codorus Township, the North Codorus Township Sewer Authority, the Commission’s Office of Trial Staff, the state’s Office of Consumer Advocate and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
Chairman Robert F. Powelson issued a statement.
As part of the settlement, the company is allowed to raise its annual rates for Chanceford Manor customers by $2,000. The average quarterly bill for residential customers will increase from $142.14 to $144.98. The company had originally requested an increase in annual rates of $10,782.Also as part of the settlement, customers in both the Chanceford Manor and Colonial Crossing Divisions will receive refunds with interest resulting from the overbilling of approximately $50,256 that occurred between 2006 and 2010. Also included in today’s action is the approval of the abandonment of wastewater service the Colonial Crossing community, North Codorus Township. The North Codorus Township Sewer Authority will now provide service to this community at the same rates it charges its other customers.
