PUC Investigates Peoples Natural Gas Co. Rate Increase Request

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to investigate a rate increase request by Peoples Natural Gas Co.

The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate the company’s request to increase annual revenues by $28.46 million (7.5 percent).  According to the proposal, the average total annual residential bill for customers using 92 Mcfs a year will increase by $85.68 (9 percent) from $955.20 to $1,040.88 a year.

The request is suspended for up to seven months and will be assigned to the Office of Administrative Law Judge for public hearings and a recommended decision.  A final decision must be made by Nov. 28, 2012. More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.     

Peoples provides service to about 359,258 customers in Mercer, Franklin, Lawrence, Beaver, Washington, Greene, Butler, Allegheny, Fayette, Westmoreland, Armstrong, Clarion, Indiana, Somerset, Cambria and Blair counties.
