PUC Issues Agenda for Forum Examining Increased Use Electric, Natural Gas Vehicles

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today issued the agenda for its Forum to examine the increased use of alternative fuel vehicles, specifically electric and natural gas.

“We are pleased to have so many senior representatives from companies that are actively involved in alternative fuel vehicle projects joining us for this discussion,” said PUC Chairman Robert F. Powelson. “Our goal is to engage in a conversation on how the PUC and the Commonwealth as a whole can foster policies and regulatory frameworks that support investments in natural gas and electric vehicles and their required infrastructure.”

The Forum will be held at 9 a.m. May 31, 2012, at Anthony J. Drexel Picture Gallery at Drexel University, Main Building, 3141 Chestnut St., Philadelphia. The five PUC Commissioners will be presiding. The public is invited to attend. Electric and natural gas vehicles will be on display on Chestnut Street outside of Drexel’s Main Building.

The agenda, which may change depending on speaker availability, includes 17 presenters who will address natural gas and electric vehicles.  The move toward increased use of AFVs creates numerous issues and questions, many of which impact the PUC’s core functions.

The PUC envisions this Forum as the first step in an ongoing discussion of AFV issues under its jurisdiction, creating a foundation for possible future action by the Commission.  The PUC has established a webpage for information. Interested parties may provide additional comment for the record until June 30, 2012.
