HARRISBURG – According to an audit report released today by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC), Pike County Light & Power (PCL&P) has substantially implemented  prior audit report recommendations to improve Company efficiency and effectiveness.

The recommendations are part of the PUC’s Management Efficiency Investigation (MEI), which examined PCL&P’s progress in implementing the  original recommendations from the prior management audit report released in January 2010 and to review the Company’s compliance with PUC emergency preparedness regulations.

The Commission voted 5-0 to make the audit report and the company’s implementation plan to address the recommendation public.

According to the MEI, PCL&P has effectively implemented 5 of the 6 prior recommendations and has taken some action on the remaining recommendation.  Some of the changes made by the company include:

  • Filing an updated affiliated interest agreement with the Commission;
  • Implementing annual refresher training on its Standards of Competitive Conduct;
  • Reporting miles of main and number of services by decade of installation within its Department of Transportation’s Annual Report;
  • Eliminating undocumented business agreements with third party contractors; and
  • Implementing controls and processes to effectively budget and report variances at the PCL&P level.

PCL&P provides electrical service to approximately 4,600 customers located in Westfall, Milford and Dingman Townships, and the boroughs of Matamoras and Milford, Pike County.  The company also provides natural gas service to approximately 1,200 customers in Westfall Township and Matamoras Borough, Pike County.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities to ensure safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protect the public interest; educate consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; further economic development; and foster new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
