PUC to Investigate Rate Increase by NRG Energy Center Harrisburg

HARRISBURG - The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to investigate a proposed rate increase by NRG Energy Center Harrisburg LLC.

The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate the request, which proposes an annual increase in revenues of $875,000 (10.7 percent).  The request is suspended for up to seven months and will be assigned to the Office of Administrative Law Judge for a recommended decision.  More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.

Under the proposal, the monthly bill for a typical residential customer who purchases 8.1 Mlbs of steam each month would increase $24 from $183 to $207 (13.1 percent).

NRG Energy Center provides steam heat to approximately 143 customers in the City of Harrisburg.
