PUC Approves Lower Rate Increase than Requested by Erie County Water Co.

HARRISBURG –The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to approve a joint settlement allowing a lower increase in annual rates than originally requested for Imperial Point Water Service Co., Erie County.
The Commission voted 5-0 to approve the joint settlement that was reached among the company, the PUC’s Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement and the Office of Consumer Advocate and resolved through mediation. The settlement allows an increase in annual rates of $46,800 (22.1 percent). The company had originally requested an annual increase in rates of $61,321 (45 percent).
Under the settlement, the total annual bill for a typical residential customer using 40,000 gallons of water a year will increase $74.40 from $228.40 to $302.80 (32.6 percent). Under the company’s original proposal, the total annual bill for a typical residential customer using 40,000 gallons of water a year would have increased $102.92 from about $228.40 to $331.32 (45.1 percent).
Imperial Point Water Service Co. provides water service to approximately 475 customers in Erie County.
