HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to approve a settlement for a lower rate increase than requested by Peoples TWP LLC (Peoples TWP).

The Commission voted 5-0 to approve the settlement, which was agreed to by the formal parties in the case including the company, the Office of Consumer Advocate, the Office of Small Business Advocate and the PUC’s Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement.

According to the settlement, the company will increase rates by $13.8 million (17 percent). The company’s original proposal asked for an $18.66 million (23 percent) increase.

Based on gas cost rates in effect at the time of the rate filing, a typical residential customer using 84 thousand cubic feet (Mcf) of natural gas a year will see an increase in their monthly bill of $15.71, from $79.22 to $94.94. Under the company’s proposal, the total annual bill for a typical residential customer using 84 Mcf of natural gas a year would have increased $22.49, from $79.22 to $101.71 per month.

Peoples TWP provides natural gas service to 62,800 customers in Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Cambria, Clarion, Clearfield, Indiana, Jefferson, and Westmoreland counties.

More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.
