PUC Approves Lower Increase than Requested by York Water Co. for Water and Wastewater Services

HARRISBURG –The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to approve a lower rate increase than requested by The York Water Co. (York Water), York County, for its water and wastewater services.

The Commission voted 5-0 to approve the settlement which was reached among the company, the PUC’s Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement, the state’s Office of Consumer Advocate and the state’s Office of Small Business Advocate.  The settlement allows for an annual rate increase of $4,972,040 for water service and $27,960 for wastewater service.   The company had originally requested an overall annual increase in revenues of $7,144,352 (16.8 percent).

Under the settlement, the total monthly bill for a flat rate wastewater customer will increase a total of $10, from $40 to $50 per month (25 percent).  The bills for customers using the gravity system with a monthly usage of 4,872 gallons will increase $4.22 from $33.39 to $37.61 per month. The bills for customers using the repumped system with a monthly usage of about 3,928 gallons will increase $5.05 from $39.71 to $44.46 a month.

York Water provides service to approximately 58,500 customers in portions of York and Adams counties. More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.
