PUC to Investigate Rate Increase Request from Cameron County Water Co.

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to investigate a proposed rate increase by the Emporium Water Co.

The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate the request, which proposes an annual increase in revenues of $401,903 (52.77 percent). Under the proposal, the bill for an average water customer using 30,000 gallons a year would increase from $331.04 to $552.56, or by $221.52 (66.9 percent) a year.

The request is suspended for up to seven months and will be assigned to the Office of Administrative Law Judge for a recommended decision. More information on the ratemaking process is available on the PUC’s website.

Emporium Water provides service to approximately 1,507 customers in parts of Cameron County.
