HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission issued the following statement following a press conference on ride-sharing in Pittsburgh:

“We appreciate Sen. Fontana’s efforts in crafting legislation that would provide another option under which transportation network companies may operate in Pennsylvania. The PUC has maintained since March that a legislative solution for transportation network companies is the best answer for Pennsylvania.

“Today’s event and the support the legislation is receiving from local leaders such as County Executive Fitzgerald and Mayor Peduto illustrates that. We look forward to joining Sen. Fontana, Rep. Mustio and Rep. Maher to engage leadership in Harrisburg on the legislation in the fall.

“In the meantime, we will continue to move forward with our consideration of the TNC applications pending before the Commission. We will do so as quickly as we can while still preserving due process for everyone involved as is required by current law. ”

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities; ensures safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protects the public interest; educates consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; furthers economic development; and fosters new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
