PUC to Investigate Rate Increase Requests for York, Pike County Sewer Companies

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to investigate rate increases requested by CMV Sewage Co. Inc. (York County) and Delaware Sewer Company (Pike County).

The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate both requests. The Commission investigation will determine what portion, if any, of the requested increases are justified.

The requests are suspended for up to seven months and will be assigned to the Office of Administrative Law Judge for public hearings and recommended decisions or settlements. More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.

CMV Sewage Co. Inc. requested an increase in annual revenues of $29,343 (21.7 percent). The company said it is asking for the increase to help cover the costs of providing service to the community, noting a decrease in revenue from the community in recent years and a need to use substantially more chlorine to meet requirements set by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.

Under the request, the quarterly bill for an average residential customer using 12,354 gallons of water would increase by $28.79, from $132.68 to $161.47 (21.7 percent).

CMV Sewage Co. Inc. serves 274 residential customers in the Chanceford Manor Community, York County.

Delaware Sewer Company requested an annual increase in revenues of $67,663 (285 percent). The company said it is asking for the increase as a result of a revenue requirement study, which assessed the revenue needed to cover the company’s cost of providing service on a going-forward basis.

Under the request, customers’ monthly fixed, flat rate would increase by $148, from $52 to $200.

Delaware Sewer Company serves 38 residential customers within a portion of the Wild Acres development, Pike County.
