PUC Fines Transportation Company for Failure to Pay Assessment Balances

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to fine American Courier Company Inc., Lackawanna County, for failure to file an assessment report demonstrating its gross intrastate operating revenues for the 2012-13 and 2013-14 calendar years.

The Commission voted unanimously to fine the company $934 in addition to the $6,227 it owes in past assessments, and to revoke its certificate, prohibiting American Courier from operating in Pennsylvania if the company fails to pay the fine and file reports for the years in which it failed to file.

Under the Public Utility Code, the Commission is funded by assessments of regulated utilities. The Code also authorizes the Commission to impose civil penalties on utilities for violations of the Public Utility Code and PUC regulations. American Courier failed to respond to the PUC’s requests to bring their assessment reports up-to-date and in line with the Public Utility Code.
