PUC to Investigate Request for Rate Increase by United Water Pennsylvania Inc.

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to investigate a request by United Water Pennsylvania Inc. (United Water) for an annual increase in base rate revenue of $9.6 million (26.8 percent) for water service.

The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate the request for up to seven months. The request is suspended and will be assigned to the Office of Administrative Law Judge for a recommended decision. More information on the ratemaking process is available on the PUC’s website. The Commission must issue a final decision by Oct. 29, 2015.

According to United Water’s proposal, the average monthly bill for residential customers using 3,500 gallons of water per month would increase from $34 to $43.09 (26.8 percent).

United Water provides service to approximately 58,500 customers in eight counties and 38 municipalities. The company’s four operating areas are Harrisburg/Newberry, Mechanicsburg, Bloomsburg and Dallas.
