PUC to Investigate Rate Increase Request for Columbia Gas

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to investigate a proposed rate increase for Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania, Inc. (Columbia).

The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate Columbia’s proposal to increase annual rates by $46.2 million (8.63 percent). Under Columbia’s proposal, the average total monthly bill for a residential customer who purchases 69 therms of gas per month would increase from $90.04 to $97.82 (8.64 percent).

The proposal is suspended until Dec. 18, 2015, and will be assigned to the PUC’s Office of Administrative Law Judge for a recommended decision or settlement. More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.

Columbia Gas provides natural gas service to 415,000 customers in 26 counties in Pennsylvania.
