PUC Approves Plans to Combine Account Numbers and Utility Bills for UGI Electric and UGI Penn Natural Gas Customers

Published on 11/9/2016

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved plans submitted by UGI Utilities, Inc. – Electric Division (UGI Electric) and UGI Penn Natural Gas, Inc. (UGI PNG) to create a combined account number and bill for customers who receive both electric and gas service from these respective utilities.

The Commission voted 5-0 to approve the plans submitted by the companies.  Effective Dec. 12, 2016, approximately 31,000 customers who are served by both UGI Electric and UGI PNG will be eligible for joint billings from the companies.

In finalizing the proposed joint bill formats, UGI Electric and UGI PNG will consult with the Commission’s Office of Competitive Market Oversight.  According to the companies, the proposed change is now possible due to a scheduled replacement of legacy customer information systems, and is being proposed to enhance customer service and satisfaction.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities; ensures safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protects the public interest; educates consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; furthers economic development; and fosters new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
