PUC to Investigate Rate Increase Request for UGI Penn Natural Gas Inc.

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to investigate a proposed general rate increase for UGI Penn Natural Gas Inc. (UGI PNG) for its natural gas service.

The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate the request, which was filed on Jan. 19, 2017, and would increase annual revenues by $21.7 million (10.4 percent).  Under UGI PNG’s proposal, the average bill for a residential customer using 91.2 hundred cubic feet of gas (ccf) a month will increase from $78.53 to $86.87 (10.6 percent), while the average bill for a commercial customer using 29.6 thousand cubic feet (Mcf) a month will increase from $194.25 to $216.60 (11.5 percent).

The request is suspended for up to seven months, and will be assigned to the PUC’s Office of Administrative Law Judge for an investigation and recommended decision.  Additionally, Vice Chairman Andrew G. Place issued a statement requesting information from the parties in the proceeding.  A final decision must be made by Oct. 20, 2017.  More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.

UGI PNG provides natural gas service to about 166,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in portions of 13 counties throughout northeastern and central Pennsylvania.
