HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) has received national recognition for creative marketing and communications, highlighting the Commission’s ongoing public education and outreach efforts.

The PUC received a 2017 MarCom Gold Award for its campaign about the switch to mandatory 10-digit telephone dialing across Central Pennsylvania. The MarCom award is one of the oldest, largest and most prestigious creative competitions in the world – recognizing outstanding achievement by creative professionals involved in the concept, direction, design and production of communication materials and programs.

“Communicating information to the public is a vital part of the PUC’s mission, and we are honored that our outreach has been recognized by professionals from around the world,” said PUC Chairman Gladys M. Brown. “The PUC is staffed by a team dedicated to public service, and we are proud that their work has been selected as among the best in the communications industry.”

The PUC’s communications campaign was honored alongside the work of numerous national and global businesses and organizations, including AARP, American Airlines, Bayer, Comcast, Dell, Habitat for Humanity, IBM, PepsiCo, Samsung, the U.S. Postal Service and United Way Worldwide. Other winners in Pennsylvania include Bloomsburg University, the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Dickinson College, Duquesne University, PSECU and the Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board.

The 2017 MarCom award winners were selected from more than six thousand worldwide entries. Judges were tasked with looking for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry. MarCom is sponsored and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP), an international organization for creative professionals.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities; ensures safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protects the public interest; educates consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; furthers economic development; and fosters new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
