PUC Commissioner Norman Kennard To Address Nov. 16th ‘Be Utility Wise’ Education Event at Red Lion Inn in Harrisburg

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) will host the Capital Region’s annual “Be Utility Wise” consumer education event on Friday, Nov. 16, 2018, with a day-long program at the Red Lion Inn, 4751 Lindle Rd., Harrisburg.

PUC Commissioner Norman Kennard will address attendees at 9:00 a.m. in the Pennsylvania Ballroom, highlighting the PUC’s ongoing study of energy affordability and assistance programs for low-income consumers.

The event runs from 8:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., and features discussions on such topics as utility Universal Service Programs; a LIHEAP 2018-19 Update; Legal Aid Services; Gas Safety; PA Consumer Advocate Services and Consumer Protections.

The annual series of free “train-the-trainer” events brings together front-line community partners, utilities and key stakeholders in highlighting energy efficiency, conservation and customer assistance programs intended to help low-income households maintain essential utility services. 

Harrisburg is one of seven host cities across the Commonwealth for this fall’s “Be Utility Wise” campaign. 

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities; ensures safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protects the public interest; educates consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; furthers economic development; and fosters new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
